Bartol Arts Education Grant

Fueling Community-Led Arts Education

In 2026, Bartol Foundation will focus on funding organizations with an average annual budget of $500,000 or under, resourcing community-led organizations as they sustain their operations long into the future.

Bartol will determine average annual budget by calculating a three-year average revenue from an organization’s two most recently completed fiscal years and the projected revenue for the current fiscal year. Earned income from investments should be included in an organization’s annual revenue, while cash reserves and in-kind goods and services are not included.

Small organizations with average annual revenue marginally over $500,000 may still be invited to apply if they meet all our other criteria regarding arts education programming.

What We Fund

Bartol Foundation funds small Philadelphia arts organizations that are actively advancing racial, gender and disability justice through community-led arts education. We support programs that provide equitable access to inclusive, culturally connected art-making and creative skill building led by teaching artists in deep relationship with the communities they serve.

We support small arts organizations with grants that:

  • Provide ongoing, in-depth, hands-on creative learning opportunities in any art discipline in Philadelphia
  • Create healing-centered, supportive spaces that advance equitable access to education for participants of any age
  • Build intentional, long-term relationships with the communities you serve
  • Engage board members, staff, and teaching artists whose lived experiences aligns with your community
  • Reflect and respect the cultures and identities of participants in your approach to learning
  • Have an average annual budget of $500,000 or under

Resourcing Community Leadership

Our priority as a grantmaker is to actively advance racial, gender, disability and economic justice through community-led arts education, investing in artists as cultural torchbearers and changemakers. We focus on funding programs designed and operated by artists impacted by racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and other systems of oppression; anchoring our impact in these communities.

When we resource community leadership, access to the restorative power of art-making, healing-centered practices, and cultural connectivity is expanded from within communities themselves.

This grant will allow Lil' Filmmakers to expand how we serve young people. This funding allows us to make state-of-the-art resources available so students can weave their stories together through music and visuals.
