Culture of Respect offers another way to stay in the conversation, even when it gets hard. Across our communities, people can still struggle to talk about identity, power, and belonging. Conversations shut down quickly, become tense, or never start. When we’re unsure what to say, or are afraid of saying the wrong thing, silence can become the default. If we want a world where everyone’s life is valued, we have to learn how to talk to each other, especially when the conversations are difficult.
In “Culture of Respect: An Introduction,” facilitators create a guided space for teaching artists to share real stories, listen with more intention, and understand how identity shapes how we move through the world. This 2-hour workshop centers around an interactive activity we call “Who’s Here?” followed by guided discussions.
Teaching artists will explore the identities they carry, how those identities intersect, and how they shape everyday interactions. Participants will practice listening and being listened to – without jumping in, shutting down, or taking over. This is an opportunity to gain confidence in conversation, develop a deeper understanding of difference as a strength, and practice building connection across identities and backgrounds.
All workshop participants will receive a discount code for 25% off the Culture of Respect 10-Week Winter Online Course.
