Artists Plus Literacy
Thursday, April 20, 2017 @ 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Literacy is more than reading the written word and spelling correctly. Artists are often asked to incorporate a literacy activity into their programs while literacy organizations experiment with ways the arts can support habits of mind that make reading and writing vibrant and engaging. Facilitated by Eli Goldblatt, Professor of English at Temple University and the director of New City Writing (an institute focused on community literacy in North Philadelphia), this workshop offers you an opportunity to explore possibilities and recognize similarities across arbitrary professional boundaries. Share your experience as an artist, art administrator, language arts teacher, college writing professor, adult education instructor or anyone interested in adding to your teaching toolbox. Learn more about our common goals and potential for collaborations and participate in hands-on activities at the intersection of arts and literacy. Come ready to add your knowledge and leave with more tools, networks and resources. A light dinner will be provided.
